Losey Blvd. fix put off at least a year

Council committee will put repairs there at top of to-do list.

The constant pounding from heavy trucks on the pitted surface of a busy four-lane road will go on for at least a year.

Fixing Losey Blvd. will have to wait, after a vote by a La Crosse city council committee Thursday night to put off repairs on one of the city’s busiest streets.

Meanwhile speed control measures are expected to happen sooner. 

The committee did promise to put repairs of the street at the top of the city’s to-do list, which is where it should have been for some time, says council member Gary Padesky.

“One of the things on council, we have wants and needs that we vote on all the time,” Padesky said at the meeting. “One thing is I want a double cheeseburger right now. I don’t need a double cheeseburger right now. 

“They want a new road. They need a new road.”

The news was was not welcome to neighbors like Daniel Price, looking for relief.

“We’ve got mirrors coming down,” Price said. “Our nick knacks are falling down. My dog is hearing rumbles and barks when it goes by.”

Another homeowner on Losey, continues to watch the deterioration.

“I have visible cracks that are coming through the walls that I’ve been tracing,” Ashley Seegmiller said. “Even in the short term that I’ve lived in my home – I have not lived there even a year – and the cracks are getting wider.”

The full city council weighs in next week. The city may move to do some traffic calming on Losey right away, in an effort to slow down heavy semis that appear to be causing the problems.
