Affordable Care Act seems unaffordable, believes state Senate candidate

Kapanke hearing horror stories of ridiculous costs in rural areas

Dan Kapanke believes it to be a looming and growing problem in the eyes of voters. Healthcare. The Affordable Care Act. Otherwise known as Obamacare.

The Republican state Senate candidate says he’s hearing plenty from those in a mostly rural district about the alarming increases in the cost of health care.  

“We have a situation here in Wisconsin, because of Obamacare, it’s causing a lot of pain for a lot of people,” Kapanke said. “People are going to go without insurance That’s is what’s going to happen. They’re going to go into the emergency ward and get picked up by everybody else or they’re going to pay the fine or both.”

Kapanke has heard stories about farmers paying tens of thousands of dollars in premiums and deductibles and still looking at double-digit-percentage increases in premiums for next year.

One man in Holmen, Kapanke says, had to take thousands out of his 401K to pay for his insurance, only to get taxed extra by the federal government for withdrawing early from his retirement account.  

Though it’s a federal law, Kapanke believes state lawmakers could do more to push federal lawmakers towards making changes to the Affordable Care Act.
