The La Crosse city council may soon decide to shorten the alternate-side parking season by about a month...starting the winter parking rules later, in mid-November, and ending earlier, in mid-March.  But in 1990, the season for shifting cars to make way for snowplows went about six months, until the end of April.

La Crosse was in the running to become an All-America City again in 1990.  The city had been chosen for the nationwide honor in 1965, for dealing with the record flooding of that year.  La Crosse made the list of 30 finalists in '90, but was not selected for the final award.  No city in Wisconsin has gotten the All-America honor more than once.  On the other hand, Des Moines, Iowa made the list for the 6th time in 2017.

Bob Hope helped the La Crosse Center celebrate its 10th anniversary with a return visit in the fall of 1990.  Hope and John Denver opened the local arena in October of 1980.  Bob Dylan and "Up With People" also played at the center 27 years ago, 1990, yesterday in La Crosse.
