Another family was officially welcomed into their home yesterday, recipients of the La Crosse Replacement Housing Program.

Danya Day and her daughter Khyree had previously lived on the outskirts of the city, something that mom wanted to change given her community service work.

“I feel like if you’re gonna help your community, you need to be part of your community and you need to be aware of what’s going on,” she said.

Day is in the organization Black Leaders Acquiring Collective Knowledge and is also the new community schools coordinator with the La Crosse School District.

Over 40 houses have been re-done in the city of La Crosse through its housing program, which takes condemned buildings at a low property value and replaces them with brand new homes.

The property used to be a rental valued at $60,000. The $180,000 home was constructed by Western Technical College students.
