Kwik Trip-owned Losey home another step closer to demolition

Written by

A long-delayed approval for the demolition of a little house on Losey Boulevard in La Crosse took another step forward Tuesday night.

The single-family house at 1003 Losey is owned by Kwik Trip and the company wants to tear it down. It's been a tough road to get permission from the city, however, due to some communication issues and because city staff has recommended against it.

The city cites a lack of similar, single family homes and would like to preserve the ones it has. Kwik Trip wants to use the area for green space.

After some deal making, however, Kwik Trip and the city compromised.

Kwik Trip will be allowed to tear down the house, as long as the company makes a payment as if it was still paying property taxes. Kwik Trip also made a vague promise to swap other residential lots with the city in the future.

A city council committee agreed to those conditions Tuesday. The full council votes on the arrangement next week.
