City plans 'major' announcement today for Riverside North development

Written by

After years of planning, a large swath of land north of Riverside Park in La Crosse could be ready to move forward with some actual development.

City hall plans, what's being labeled as a major announcement today, on the Riverside North development.

The topic of the announcement has not been released but it's likely to involve news of who the master developer for the project will be.

For more than 20 years, the site has gone through a process of acquisition, clean up and planning.

It is the largest of the last developable sites in La Crosse and has often been described as a potential game changer.

Three groups have been in the running to essentially manage development of the 35-acre former Mobil Oil site.

A public input process on Riverside North four years ago identified a mix of residential, commercial and retail space as the focus of new development there.
