Highways have been reopened in Houston County.

Two people are in custody following an officer related shooting in Houston County on Tuesday.

La Crescent Police officers saw two men behaving suspiciously at the 3rd Street Kwik Trip around 1:30 AM.

Officers followed their car after they left and tried to pull it over in Hokah.

The suspects shot at police and police returned fire.  The men then took off in their car and a chase ensued, reportedly reaching speeds of around 100 miles an hour.

It ended when the car crashed in a bean field on Hwy. 44 in Caledonia, Minn.

The suspects ran from the scene but later surrendered.

One was taken to Gundersen in La Crosse for treatment of injuries and then to the La Crosse County Jail.

The other man is in the Houston County Jail on probable cause attempted murder.

Charges are expected to be filed against William Wallraff and Wyatt Helfrich in the next few days.

The investigation is ongoing by the Minnesota Public Safety Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
