Get it done indeed

Written by

Get ‘R Done. That is the mantra of comedian Larry the Cable Guy, typically followed by a few grunts. Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker tried to borrow the line, as he urged lawmakers to pass a new transportation budget. He flubbed a bit, saying Get It Done. Doesn’t quite have the same ring to it. In fact, it rings rather hollow coming from the Governor. The fact is, Governor Walker is largely responsible for causing the problem of unfunded road work. His answer to road repair has been to borrow to pay for it, while delaying a number of road projects, some for years. Walker has had four separate budgets to come up with a sustainable long-term solution to our road woes. And he hasn’t gotten it done. Instead, his most recent budget proposal calls for the highest transportation debt service ever. Debt payments as a percentage of transportation revenue have nearly doubled under Walker. A number of possible solutions put forth have all been squashed by the Governor. Now he wants them to pass his transportation budget, or risk further delays. That seems rather hypocritical coming from the Governor who for six years has repeatedly failed to get it done.
